About

Hello, and welcome.

Letters from the Scullery is a quiet bi-monthly newsletter about the Yarrow Valley in the Scottish Borders, written from The Scullery — a small one-bedroom cottage tucked into a wing of an 1850s farmhouse, where the river runs slow and the curlews come back in May.

Each issue is a letter, in the proper sense of the word. There’s a long read about Border folklore, ballads, or the people who shaped this country. A profile of a maker we know and recommend — a photographer, a baker, a potter, a fishing ghillie. A diary of what’s worth leaving the cottage for in the coming weeks. A walk we’d point you to. A recipe for the season. A Scots word worth keeping.

It comes every two months. There is no commentary, no news, no urgency. The Scullery is a holiday cottage in the Yarrow Valley; if you’d like to stay, you can find us at the-scullery.com. Inner Circle subscribers there see new dates a week before they go public, and have a small midweek rate held for them.

Until then — settle in, and welcome.
